What’s possible with physical AI?

Enhancing human perception 

Physical AI gives us the ability to connect through sensors and understand what’s happening in the physical world. It enables precise decision making, which according to Ivan, doesn’t just increase efficiency and productivity; it also gives you resilience. “It gives you an opportunity to plan better and look in the future” says Ivan. Imagine being able to see an entire factory, or an entire city, and understand all its information immediately. Without physical AI and sensor data, it’s impossible. “Humans cannot perceive all this information naturally, there’s too much information. In many cases you need help breaking down these perceptual limitations and analytical limitations,” Ivan explains.  

Physical AI insights produces new ideas and solutions 

Today, almost every device has some sort of sensor built into it that’s producing data. Physical AI models, like those being built at Archetype, can interpret this data, enabling more natural interactions and reasoning with the world around us. Why does this matter? “Because you cannot come up with new solutions and new ideas if you don't have data. And not just data, but insights” answers Ivan.  

Sustainability benefits from physical AI  

Sustainability is an area where physical AI can quickly deliver benefits. Ivan uses the example of heating and cooling a building. “Turns out that 70% of the time, heating and cooling works when there’s nobody there. So, 70% of the energy used for heating and cooling a building is just wasted.” By connecting behaviour in the building (for example, the number of people in it, when they enter and leave the building, etc.), with real-time sensor information and action, Physical AI can optimise energy use faster, and dramatically reduce the building’s power consumption immediately.

Physical AI can make a lot possible – it changes the way we interact with and understand the world around us. Ivan concludes, “it’s not just about doing more with less. Do it faster, and do more with what you have already.”
