Can AI build better cities?

Across engineering, urban planning and the broader built environment, AI is helping organisations tackle problems that were once too complex, time-intensive or difficult to understand at scale. 

Its potential to uncover new insights and strengthen human expertise could help the built environment respond to some of its most complex and interconnected challenges. 

For Will Cavendish, Global Digital Services Leader at Arup, the opportunity lies in applying AI to address these challenges in practical and meaningful ways.

"We have some really big challenges in the built environment," Will explains. "We need to make sure that the 10 billion people that are going to be on the planet have the homes and the cities and the infrastructure that they need. And we need to do that at the same time as respecting the carbon boundaries of the planet and regenerating nature."
