Goodman, a global leading owner, developer and manager of logistics real estate, and its customer Symrise held a topping out ceremony today for a new, 12,700 sqm logistics centre in Altenwerder freight village in the Port of Hamburg. Over 80 guests attended the event, including representatives from Hamburg Port Authority (HPA). Fragrance and flavouring supplier Symrise will use a 7,100 sqm unit for the international distribution of its products. A second unit of 5,600 sqm is available for lease in Goodman’s logistics centre.
The modern warehouse and logistics spaces are being built with the customer and sustainability in mind and the design incorporates world-class storage areas, loading gates, office and social spaces – while leveraging sustainable construction standards such as the German water management act (WHG).
Symrise will benefit from the strategic location of Altenwerder freight village. With its direct connection to the A7 motorway and immediate proximity to the neighbouring ultra-modern Altenwerder container terminal, one of the world’s most advanced port terminals, Symrise will be in one of Germany’s premier logistics locations.
“With the logistics location of the Port of Hamburg, Symrise/Symotion will optimise its international services in 160 countries. Thanks to the immediate proximity to the port, the inbound logistics can combine raw materials with the export of Symrise products in an ideal way. As a result of the new location, we will be able to drastically reduce the number of so-called follow-up and advance shipments on the road,” said Reinhard Nowak, Managing Director at Symotion, a wholly owned logistics subsidiary of Symrise AG. “Goodman has proven to be a reliable and experienced partner, developing a high-quality logistics site for us within a short time frame.”
Christof Prange, Head of Business Development, Goodman in Germany said “We are delighted that we are able to demonstrate the benefits of our own+develop+manage business model to Symrise. The collaboration with the city of Hamburg and Hamburg Port Authority has enabled us to seamlessly reach this milestone in the project’s development in a matter of months for Symrise and future customers.”
Hamburg: Germany’s no. 1 logistics location
In the latest “Logistics and Real Estate 2016” study completed by analysts, bulwiengesa, Hamburg was identified as the most attractive of a total of 28 logistics regions in Germany. 225,000 sqm of logistics space was marketed in the first half of 2016, including the Goodman Interlink Hamburg Logistics Park in neighbouring Finkenwerder. The company had fully let this within twelve months and in mid-March 2017, Goodman, Airbus and Satair Group celebrated its official opening.
Speaking on behalf of Hamburg Port Authority, Uwe Weidemann, Head of Marketing and Project Development at Hamburg Port Authority said, “We are pleased to welcome a new company, Symrise AG, to the Port of Hamburg. I am sure that the company will gain lasting benefit from the modern infrastructure we have here and thus achieve its ambitious objectives. The continuing popularity of the logistics location is proof of the success of our strategy for future-oriented port management.”
Further space available
In the same property in Altenwerder freight village, a further 5,600 sqm of logistics space with high-quality equipment will be available in summer 2017. This second unit includes 100 sqm for offices and social areas and 600 sqm of mezzanine levels. The property design allows flexible use, with possibilities such as cross-docking or outdoor storage. In line with sustainable building standards, Goodman has fitted the facility both with a continuous window strip on the mezzanine level for optimal use of daylight and with LED lighting to reduce energy consumption. The foundation slab is sealed with a WHG-compliant film and suitable for the storage of goods in water protection class 3 so it is a versatile space.
